Now, we have surfaced! Fab photie of the blue thing. I got the software to make it the size of the house, but still ... hotboy

Good guesses, RobMcj, but it is neither a football or a tropical disease in her hand. Have another go.
Its not a balloon either. Mrs M is standing by a roadside carving vendor's stall on the road to Mangochi. In the shadows, one can just make out a couple of carbed masks.

Looks like a ball or a bowl!

Some excellent guesses, but no-one was correct. Mrs M is holding her blue motorbike helmet in her hand. A trail bike is a very good way to travel in this part of the world, apart from when the roads get too sandy.
